Is your brand reflecting your current business? If not, ask yourself these questions.

When running a business, especially as a one-person show, you do an endless variety of tasks in a day. Everything you do from drinking your first coffee in the morning to pitching to potential investors is just as important in keeping things running smoothly. However, as Branding professionals, we’ve learned that one particularly important thing tends to end up on the back burner: your brand. While many business owners focus on running their businesses, they forget that part of doing so is paying attention to how the business is being reflected externally (AKA brand).

It’s so important that all of the hard work you’re putting in internally shows when consumers, clients, stakeholders etc. are looking. So, ask yourself, is your brand reflecting your business? If not, answer these questions:

  1. Describe your ideal client or stakeholders (who they are, and what they need or want from your company).

  2. How do you want them to perceive (think and feel about) your brand?

  3. Describe your brand’s core purpose (fundamental reason for being).

  4. Describe what your brand can deliver better than any other (unique benefit or value proposition).

  5. What are the top 3-5 messages your brand should communicate?

  6. If your brand were a person, what 3-5 traits would describe its personality?

When we start a relationship with a new client, we begin by asking these questions. This is how we dig deep into the core of your brand, hone in on your ideal partners and stakeholders, brainstorm key messaging, and create public perception. It all starts right here.
