The Time to Realize your Potential was Yesterday.
What does it really mean to “realize your potential”? People seem to love this phrase. We, on the other hand, have a love-hate relationship with it. So, let’s discuss for a moment.
By definition, the word potential means the quality of having or showing the capacity to become or develop into something in the future. If you’ve ever been told that you or your work has a lot of potential, it may have felt good, but what it really implied was, “you’ll get there, but you’re not quite there yet.” We aren’t bringing this up to strip you of any warm and fuzzies you’ve ever gotten from being told you’ve got potential because we’re sure you really do. We’re bringing this up because “potential” itself rubs us the wrong way. From years of working in branding and simply doing life, we’ve seen case after case of individuals or businesses with a lot of “potential” but nothing to show for it. It’s like people even see their own value and potential, but treat it exactly by definition -- as something that will develop in the future.
We’re here to say this: no more waiting for your “potential” to arrive. They call it “realizing your potential” for a reason; all you have to do is realize it’s there because it has been all along.
No more suspecting that what you do is valuable but waiting for some ambiguous future event to affirm that for you. Know yourself, know your worth and own what you do.
For many of our clients, working with us is ultimately a sort of epiphany in exactly this. It is our mission to help our clients and our friends to quit waiting, embrace their talents, and show themselves to the world.
